Future Retrospect

Sunday, March 6, 2005

Come sixty or seventy years, I want to be able to look back on my life and say a few things with conviction. I want to be able to say that I lived, that I loved, that I exploited the opportunities that passed before me and capitalized on them to bring me to a better, happier place. But most importantly, I want to be able to say that I do live, I do love, and that I am original.

If there are two rules to living a successful life, they are happiness and originality.

That said, I will not let myself be stifled by contrived inconveniences in the name of anything other than my own mortal happiness and pursuit of originality. The selfish tone is somewhat lessened when one considers that my happiness is directly affected by the happiness and well-being of those I love. Life is ours for the taking and I plan to use that to my advantage.

Being happy is important. Being original is not. Doing something truly original is extremely unlikely anyway.
