How are you?

I want a better response to this question. It’s customary, in the United States at least, to answer with some variant of “good” regardless of how one actually feels or lives. I wonder if there is some other, more interesting and truthful answer that could lead to a valuable interaction.

I don’t want something just for shock value — that’s already cliché among emos. I want something that is short, tasteful and honest. The beginning of a short but interesting conversation with the goal of engaging people whom I would have otherwise just floated past.

I think this will be part of my deliberate plan to slow down.
